CHIROPRACTIC BENEFITS PATIENTS WITH ADDICTIONS
According to results of a recent research project, the effectiveness of addiction treatment programs significantly increased when combined with Chiropractic adjustments. The 18-month study treated patients in residential drug addiction programs. Participating patients were divided into three groups; each patient received the treatment outlined by their respective group. Group one received standard care, which included group therapy, psychotherapy and medical care. Group two received standard care and Chiropractic adjustments; group three also received standard care, a placebo treatment, and a placebo adjustment. 100% of patients who received Chiropractic adjustments completed the entire addiction treatment program — never accomplished by any other mode of treatment. Only 56% of the standard care group and 75% of the placebo group patients completed the program.
Patients belonging to the Chiropractic care group also made less visits to the nurses’ station and showed less anxiety. Only 9% made more than one visit. 48% of the standard care group and 56% of the placebo group made multiple visits and had a greater degree of anxiety.
The results, first published in
Molecular Psychiatry, was the first time Chiropractic research was published in a journal in the world scientific community. Several leading newspapers across the country also published the study.
This was the first study to establish that subluxation correction improves the state of well-being and greater human potential. The results clearly indicate a strong association between Chiropractic care and increased retention of patients in addiction programs.
Future uses of Chiropractic care as a means of increasing retention in addiction programs will open new opportunities for Chiropractors, as some 50 million people suffer with addiction and the need for subluxation correction exists in all treatment programs.
